The Goal

Caffè Nero was on the hunt for new ways to enhance their customer experience and retention, ultimately providing the high street coffee giant with a distinct edge on their competitors.

Already running a highly popular loyalty scheme, they partnered with Yoyo to create a fully branded app solution that:

  • Enhanced the payment and loyalty experience.
  • Gathered real-time insight on its customers’ buying behaviours and preferences.
  • Enabled understanding, segmenting and rewarding of customers based on their habits and preferences.

What We Did

Within five months the project went from ideation to building, testing, training and ultimately delivery across 640+ UK stores - hitting #1 in Food App Stores and creating hundreds of thousands of happy customers.

Driving Caffè Nero Sales

At Christmas, Caffè Nero wanted to use their app to spread festive joy to the point-of-sale, giving their customers a delightful experience and generating some brand love.

Working together, Yoyo and Caffè Nero built and implemented the ‘Christmas Cracker Campaign’, which provided every customer with a digital Christmas Cracker and the chance to win tons of real prizes every time they bought an item through the Caffè Nero app.

Customers simply had to “pull” their Christmas Cracker open to find out if they had won a prize, which included unlimited coffee for a year, an assortment of gift cards and thousands of golden Nero loyalty bonus stamps.

Not only was there a positive build up of anticipation at the point-of-sale, there were no third party websites and no extra sign-ups - just a couple of taps on the screen and Caffè Nero customers were immediately reaffirmed with a delightfully rewarding experience. And if they didn’t win, they were consoled with a cheesy Christmas cracker joke!
